19th-Century Wood and Iron Candlestick

19th-Century Wood and Iron Candlestick

€245.00

A candlestick from the 19th century, constructed from a turned ebonised wood base and a hand-forged iron stem that rises in a tight, continuous spiral. The mechanism is functional: the coiled column allows a candle to be gripped and raised as it burns down, a practical solution typical of pre-industrial domestic lighting. The iron carries a soft, silver-grey surface worn smooth at the points of most handling, while the black base sits weighted and stable beneath it. Honest in its making and quietly unusual in form.
